East Canyon Henefer Section from Google Street View
Description:
The Henefer Section of East Canyon runs from the Henefer Lek to the town of Henefer. The canyon in this area is mostly shrubsteppe, but several small riparian patches are also present where migrants may be found in the spring and fall. The road isn't birded all that often and is more or less used when visiting the lek. But if the season is right stop and check the riparian habitat and help build the checklist for this area.
Birding:
The bird list for this location is typical of shrubsteppe and basic riparian habitat found nearby. During the breeding season songbirds like LARK SPARROW, BREWER'S SPARROW, and MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD can be found in the shrubsteppe, while BULLOCK'S ORIOLE, YELLOW WARBLER, and BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE might be found in the riparian habitat.
Directions:
From Salt Lake take I-80 east bound past Park City towards Cheyenne. Take exit 168 for I-84 towards Ogden. Go 3.7 miles to exit 115. At the end of the on ramp turn left onto SR-65. Follow the road through town and take the left to stay onto SR-65 into East Canyon. From here it's approximately 6 miles till the summit at the Henefer Lek.
